Energy potential from biomass big enough to support renewable energy targets
Converting biomass (organic waste, wood or crops) into electricity, heat or transport fuel - bioenergy - is possible in quantities big enough to support renewable energy targets. What is more, it can be done without compromising the environment, a new briefing released today by the European Environment Agency states.
The briefing, 'How much biomass can Europe use without harming the environment ?' looks at the potential amounts of biomass available over the next 30 years, and identifies the key environmental challenges and opportunities facing bioenergy production. The briefing will provide input at the 14th European Biomass Conference in Paris (17-21 October).
