The European Environment Agency (EEA) is a dynamic and engaging workplace in the heart of Copenhagen, empowering our employees to thrive and ensuring that their well-being is supported.

What we offer

Remuneration and allowances

We offer competitive salaries, which are set in accordance with European Union (EU) Staff Regulations. These are adjusted with a local weighting (known as a correction coefficient) to align with the cost of living in Denmark.

Additionally, salaries are complemented by a range of allowances (e.g. family and travel allowances) to support the diverse needs of our staff. Employees also benefit from worldwide medical insurance coverage, generous annual leave and the opportunity for an EU employee pension scheme. Find out more about our employment conditions.

Diversity and inclusion

At the EEA, we embrace our diverse community of employees from various backgrounds and academic disciplines. Whether you’re a linguist, a data scientist, or a social scientist, you belong with us.

Our dynamic working group plays a crucial role in cultivating an inclusive workplace. We achieve this by implementing robust recruitment procedures, organizing engagement activities, and promoting diversity and inclusion principles in our daily work environment.

At the EEA, we take active measures to prevent or mitigate harassment in the work environment. We offer training courses to all for avoiding, recognizing and reporting harassment, and we have dedicated bodies in place like a group of specially trained confidential councilors.

Continuous learning and development

We aspire to continuously develop a strong, evolving organisation. This means that we emphasise a supportive environment, where learning by doing is part of everyday work. We also support and train our leaders to lead in ways that reinforce learning.

As a staff member of the EEA, you will have opportunities to learn and grow as part of your job. You will also be able to attend training that will support your learning and development journey.

Health and well-being

EEA employees are covered by a Joint Sickness and Insurance Scheme (JSIS) provided by the European Commission. An annual medical check-up is offered to all staff.

The agency further offers in-house activities that include fitness classes, canteen services, and more. Our Onboarding Buddy Network also helps new colleagues feel at home at the EEA and in Copenhagen.

In Denmark, people don’t live to work, they work to live! As a Dane, I can confirm that this way of thinking has also rubbed off on the EEA, yet without compromising the work that we deliver. Being able to exercise a healthy work-life balance is one of the reasons I enjoy working at the EEA.

Work-life balance

Work-life balance is actively cultivated at the EEA. We understand that a healthy balance of professional and personal life leads to improved physical and mental well-being and stronger relationships both at home and at work.

We offer flexible schedules and remote work options, allowing our employees to effectively manage work and personal responsibilities.

Social engagements

We take pride in fostering a vibrant and engaging workplace. Our commitment to social engagements goes beyond the ordinary, creating a sense of community and well-being among our employees.

We host regular events such as summer parties, DHL run and movie nights, where colleagues unwind and share laughs. We also come together for informal get-togethers—whether it’s a coffee break, a game of table football, or a lively chat. Our active social committee ensures our calendar is brimming with exciting activities.

At the EEA, I cherish the work and life balance, empowered by flexible schedules and remote work options while respecting deadlines. The joy in social connections and moments of laughter with my colleagues are priceless. The greatest benefit of being part of an organisation like EEA is our embrace of professionalism, openness, positivity, respect, and trust within a supportive environment that fosters feedback culture.
