EEA issues briefing paper and poster to mark UN biodiversity conference

The seventh meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP-7) to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity is taking place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 9 to 20 February. Priority issues include the biodiversity of mountain ecosystems, the role of protected areas in the preservation of biological diversity, technology cooperation and transfer and implementation of the target of achieving a significant reduction in the rate of biodiversity loss by 2010.

The European Environment Agency is participating in the conference and has published a briefing paper and a poster to coincide with it. The briefing focuses on the urgent need for information based on monitoring and indicators to support the achievement of this target and the EU's more ambitious goal of halting the loss of biodiversity by 2010.
