desertification information system to support national action programmes in the Mediterranean

The overall objective of the desertification information system to support national action programmes in the Mediterranean (DIS/MED) project is to improve the capacity of national administrations in the Mediterranean countries to effectively program measures and policies to combat desertification and the effects of drought by reinforcing communication, facilitating the exchange of information and establishing a common information system to monitor the physical and socio-economic conditions in areas threatened or affected by desertification and drought and to assess the extent, severity and trends of land degradation in those areas.
