There is one map for each of the contaminants measured in mussels and oysters, which are representative of the hazardous substances in marine organisms. In the map, each of the small dots represents a station (a location which is regularly monitored), coloured according to estimated concentration levels (low/moderate/high relative to environmental thresholds). The big pie diagrams show, for each region, the proportion of stations that have low/moderate/high concentration levels. The arrow by each pie diagram shows whether concentrations are in general improving (decreasing concentrations) or show no significant change. There were no cases of increasing trends.

The map shows the number of premature deaths (PDs) attributable to PM₂.₅ in 2021 at NUTS3 level for European countries. The PDs, which in absolute terms are higher for those NUTS3 level regions with the highest populations, have been normalised by 100,000 inhabitants, to make the numbers comparable among regions. For countries where NUTS3 regions are not available, the national value is shown.

Average travel time to the nearest hospital in minutes

This metadata refer to the vector dataset presenting, for NUTS3 regions, the average travel time to the nearest hospital in 2020. The data has been developed by Eurostat to measure how easily basic services can be reached by the resident population, based on spatial analyses of the location of healthcare facilities, combined with the road network. Healthcare facility were computed (note this could have been across a national border).

This data set presents assessment of health risk due to exposure to three main pollutants (PM2.5, NO2 and O3-SOMO35) at NUTS3 and Country levels. In addition, average and population weighted average concentration values are available in the data set for PM10, PM2.5, NO2 and O3 (SOMO35). The calculations are made for years 2005 to 2020. The concentrations data are taken from the ETC/ATNI interpolated maps (ETC/ATNI Eionet Reports 1/2020/ and 1/2021 and references therein). The methodology is as described in ETC/ATNI Eionet Report 10/2021, aggregating at country level.

This entry points at data related to the "Exposure of vulnerable groups and social infrastructure to climate-related risks" viewer on the European Climate and Health Observatory platform. The viewer analyses the exposure of vulnerable populations (the elderly and unemployed) and social infrastructure (schools and hospitals) to the risk of flooding. It also presents the exposure of social infrastructure to the Urban Heat Island effect for 100 European cities.

This viewer presents the combined health impact of air pollution and road traffic noise at 1km x 1km resolution in cities where data is available. The impact of air pollution is measured in terms of mortality and the impact of road noise pollution is measured in terms of long-term high annoyance. The viewer is based on data submitted under the Environmental Noise Directive and the Air Quality Directive and represents the situation in 2017.
