Additional information

Spills shown are over 7 tonnes. Oil spilt in an incident means all oil lost to the environment, including that which is burnt or remains in a sunken vessel. Despite the fact that the vast majority of spills are less than 7 tonnes, data on numbers and volumes for small spills are unreliable and such accidents are regarded to have a relatively small contribution to the overall quantity of oil spilled into the marine environment as a result of tanker accidents.
Geographical coverage note: European Seas: Northeast Atlantic, Baltic, Mediterranean and Black Sea
