DesignatedArea (112839 records)

Contains information on nationally designated sites and designated boundaries reported through CDDA data collection as Type2 data, with addition of selected elements from corresponding features from Protected Site (Type1) data.

Element nameElement definitionValue definitions
cddaId Unique record identifier within the CDDA data base for nationally designated areas.
The CDDA ID is identical to the WDPA ID and reused in the World Data base on Protected Areas (WDPA).
nationalId The unique record identifier for the site in the national database on designated areas.
cddaCountryCode Code of the reporting country. see Vocabulary
cddaRegionCode Code of the reporting entity, being country, autonomous or overseas region or community, or other territory (e.g. overseas entities as Outermost Regions or Overseas Countries and Territories). see Vocabulary
siteName Name of the Protected Site feature.
legalFoundationDate Year value extracted from the date when the Protected Site was legally created.
designatedAreaType This element indicates whether the spatial object is a designated site or a designated boundary.
The concept "designated boundary" is conceived with the purpose of providing countries with the opportunity to report information about designated areas that are not protected sites in the classical sense but where the areas are still provided with durable protection for flora and fauna.
Examples of designated boundaries could be sets of areas are under general protection because of the occurrence of a specific habitat type (this could be raised bogs, specific meadow types, etc) or where sets of areas are owned and managed with the purpose of improving conditions for habitat types and species (e.g. owned by certain NGOs).

designationTypeCode Designation types classify designations by certain common characteristics, such as statutory status, purpose of the protected area, conservation objectives and the related restrictions of use or management measures.
The designation type code list is a sequential list with definitions from the sub-national, national, regional or international level.
The national designation type codes are used in the Nationally designated areas (CDDA) reporting, in the Natura 2000 Standard Data Form and in the Emerald Standard Data Form.
The regional and international designation type codes are related to regional or international legislation such as Natura 2000, Bern Convention, Barcelona Convention or World Heritage Sites or Ramsar sites.
see Vocabulary
iucnCategory IUCN protected area management categories (2008) classify protected areas according to their management objectives. The categories are recognised by international bodies such as the United Nations and by many national governments as the global standard for defining and recording protected areas and as such are increasingly being incorporated into government legislation.

see Vocabulary
siteArea Surface area in hectares (ha).
majorEcosystemType The major ecosystem type can be: marine, marine and terrestrial (incl. freshwater) or terrestrial (incl. freshwater). see Vocabulary
marineAreaPercentage Percentage of the total area of marine ecosystems in the designated area.
spatialDataDissemination Code for instructions to EEA regarding dissemination of geographical data (boundaries or coordinates). see Vocabulary
spatialResolutionCode Codes for spatial resolution of dataset from which geographical data for this feature (boundaries, coordinates) has been derived. see Vocabulary
PSlocalId The PSlocalId is mirroring one of the three components of the INSPIRE ID: the localId. The PSlocalId is unique within the PSnamespace, in the same way as the ProtectedSite localId is unique within the ProtectedSite namespace.
PSnamespace The PS Namespace is mirroring one of the three components of the INSPIRE ID: the namespace. The PS Namespace uniquely identifies (copies) the data source of the spatial object in Type 1. The namespace element from the Type 1 data must be reused for the PS Namespace.
PSversionId The PSversionId is mirroring one of the three components of the INSPIRE ID: the versionId. This element provides the life cycle information of the Protected Site spatial object.
remark Remarks about the designated area record.
metadata_versionId Added by EEA. Unique metadata identifier of version of the feature or record. The url points either to the source of the reported data or to a page providing information on the data origin.
metadata_beginLifeSpanVersion Added by EEA. Datetime when feature or record was created. In case of reported data it is the release of the respective CDR envelope.
metadata_statusCode Added by EEA. Status of the feature or record regarding its registration. valid: accepted and valid reported feature or record;

ProtectedSite (112839 records)

Contains selected information, including the geometry, on spatial object of INSPIRE protected sites reported through CDDA data collection as Type1 data, with addition of selected elements from corresponding records from Designated Area (Type2) data.

Protected sites, where dissemination of spatial data has been restricted by reporting country, are not present in the dataset.
