Maritime jurisdiction and boundaries in the Arctic region

External Data Spec Published 14 Jun 2017
The depicted potential areas of continental shelf beyond 200 nautical miles (nm) for Canada and the USA are theoretical maximum claims assuming that none of the states claims continental shelf beyond median lines with neighbouring states where maritime boundaries have not been agreed. In reality, the claimable areas may fall well short of the theoretical maximums. It is also possible that one or more states will claim areas beyond the median lines.
