The circular economy aims to transform the relationship between our societies and natural resources. This transformation needs to be enabled by policy and to bring on board businesses and consumers equally. But is this transformation happening in the European Union? Is the European economy already fit for purpose? The EEA is organising a webinar to reflect on these questions.

We rarely see natural resources in their pure form. Instead, we see what these resources become: products. In a circular economy, products are designed to be durable and repairable, extending their lifespan and reducing the demand for new resources. But do products in Europe last longer and longer? And what is the EU doing to foster this new generation of circular products?

The EEA webinar will be based on recently published twin briefings,  ‘Europe’s circular economy in facts and figures’ and ‘Product lifespans — monitoring trends in Europe’.

Eurostat will provide insights into its latest stats on the circular economy, and Directorate General for the Environment of the European Commission will provide the latest on eco-design.

About the event

The event, introduced and facilitated by Riyong Kim (EEA), will consist of initial presentations on wider issues linked to cicular economy by Ioannis Bakas (EEA) and Oscar Gomez (Eurostat), followed by more in-depth presentation on product circularity by Tobias Nielsen (EEA) and Olivia Chassais (DG Environment). These presentations will be followed by a debate.

The webinar is open for all and requires only registration via the link below.
