The EEA is monitoring Europe's progress towards the 8th Environment Action Programme's objectives and will at this online event present the key findings of its forthcoming report '8th Environment Action Programme (EAP) Monitoring Report - 2024'.

The European Union has a long-term vision for Europeans to live well within planetary boundaries, achieving a well-being economy where resources are used efficiently, and nothing is wasted. This vision is outlined in the 8th Environment Action Programme (EAP). The EEA monitors progress towards the objectives of the 8th EAP and highlights areas where decisive action is needed to fulfil the EU's ambitions.

The findings are published as the EEA’s ‘8th Environment Action Programme (EAP) Monitoring Report – 2024’ on 20 February and presented at this online event.

About the event

Leena Ylä-Mononen, EEA Executive Director, will present the report’s key findings. The presentation will be followed by short interventions from EU policy stakeholders, including Grzegorz Grobicki, Permanent Representation of Poland to the EU; Pär Holmgren, Member of the European Parliament and Ewa Molz, Directorate-General Environment of the European Commission.

About the EEA report

On 20 February, the European Environment Agency will publish its report, ‘8th Environment Action Programme monitoring report – 2024’, which evaluates the likelihood of achieving the objectives set forth in the 8th EAP.

 The report, based on an assessment of 28 indicators, examines historical trends, recent progress, and projected outcomes for the priority objectives of the 8th EAP around the following themes:

    • Climate change mitigation
    • Climate change adaptation
    • A regenerative circular economy
    • Zero pollution and a toxic-free environment
    • Biodiversity and ecosystems
    • Environmental and climate pressures related to production and consumption
    • Enabling conditions
    • Living well, within planetary boundaries

This comprehensive assessment provides valuable insights into the progress made so far and highlights where urgent action is required to align with the EU's environmental goals.
