It includes articles covering nature, pollution and climate change, and it tells a story about how Europe has improved the quality of its bathing waters. Three interviews take a closer look at work to safeguard waters in Austria, sustainability of chemicals, and the possibility of removing chemical pollution from water.
Europe’s water is under pressure from pollution, over-use, habitat degradation and increasing impacts of climate change. Improving the resilience and health of Europe’s lakes, rivers and groundwaters is an urgent priority to secure good-quality water for people and nature.
By prioritising water efficiency, investing in sustainable infrastructure, and protecting our natural environments, we can build a more resilient Europe.

WaterWiseEU campaign
Our water cycle is broken. With overconsumption, water pollution, poor water management and climate change placing immense pressure on our water systems, now is the time to act.
To promote water resilience and sustainable water management across Europe, the European Commission’s Directorate General for Environment launched the #WaterWiseEU campaign. It aims to spark conversations about the many water challenges facing us and how we can all work together to tackle them.
