Observed change in global mean sea level
Chart (static)
Note:
The figure depicts the rise in global mean sea level from 1880 to 2018 based on three sources. All values are relative to the average level of the period 1993-2012, during which the three datasets overlap.
The green line (CSIRO) shows a reconstruction for 1880 to 2013 from coastal and island tide gauge data (updated from Church and White, 2011; https://doi.org/10.1007/s10712-011-9119-1). The red line (DMW) shows a more recent reconstruction for 1900 to 2015 (Dangendorf et al., 2019; https://doi.org/10.1038/s41558-019-0531-8). The uncertainty intervals around these lines are shaded.
The dark blue line (CMEMS) shows a time series for 1993 to 2018 based on satellite altimetry data.
