Commercial fish landings with Good Environmental Status information (shown by criteria)
Map (static)
This figure shows the proportion of commercial fish landings per regional sea with Good Environmental Status (GES) assessment information, as defined in the Marine Strategy Framework Directive. GES information is broken down by level of exploitation (F) and reproductive capacity (SSB) criteria.

Mediterranean stock assessments
Black Sea stock assessments
North-East Atlantic Ocean and Baltic sea stock assessments
Two criteria are applied for assessing Good Environmental Status (GES), as described in the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD): criteria 3.1 - Level of exploitation (i.e. Fishing mortality - F) and/or criteria 3.2 - Reproductive capacity (i.e. Spawning Stock Biomass - SSB). Information in relation to the MSFD criterion 3.3 - Population age and size distribution - cannot be assessed at present since no reference points are available.
Landings were divided into proportion of landings of assessed stocks (stocks with GES information) and unassessed stocks. Assessed stocks are those for which the level of exploitation and reproductive capacity can be assessed against a reference point in line with the MSFD methodological requirements.
Assessed stocks were further analysed to identify those for which only information on fishing mortality (F) and reference level (Fmsy) are available, stocks for which only reproductive capacity (SSB) and reference level (MSY Btrigger) are available, or for those with information for both criteria.
