Map (static)
This figure and map show the estimated percentage of inhabitants within urban areas exposed to unhealthy road traffic noise levels, based on the Environmental Noise Directive Thresholds. It is based on data officially reported by countries under the EU Environmental Noise Directive (2002/49/EC) for the round of noise mapping of 2022 using submission up to 16/04/2024.

Methodology
Based on data officially reported by countries under the EU Environmental Noise Directive (2002/49/EC) up to 01/01/2021. Because of gaps in the reported data, a gap-filling routine is used to estimate the total population exposure to high noise levels (https://www.eionet.europa.eu/etcs/etc-he/products/etc-he-products/etc-he-reports/etc-he-report-2023-9-wp-3-2-5-3-development-of-a-2017-baseline-to-monitor-noise-under-the-zero-pollution-objectives). Countries marked with * are partially or totally modelled.
