Cross-agency One Health task force

Aims and objectives 

Established in 2023, the cross-agency One Health task force is a joint initiative of five agencies of the European Union that have a technical and scientific mandate in the areas of environmental sustainability, public health and food safety: the European Environment Agency (EEA), the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC), the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA), the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and the European Medicines Agency (EMA). 

Recognising that the health of humans, animals, plants and ecosystems are closely interdependent, the five agencies have decided to build on their existing joint activities and work towards a more permanent and established form of transdisciplinary cooperation. This will ensure that the scientific advice provided by the agencies is increasingly integrated and that the agencies are able to contribute with a united voice to the implementation of the One Health approach in Europe. 

The cross-agency One Health task force, consisting of senior officers operating under the auspices of the respective Executive Directors, is tasked with supporting this process by developing options for implementing the One Health approach within and between the five agencies. A framework for action has been adopted to guide the work of the task force during the period 2024-2026.
