See all EU institutions and bodiesFood systems in Europe and across the world are currently unsustainable. Globally, they account for almost one-third of greenhouse gas emissions, drive biodiversity loss and harmful health impacts, and fail to ensure fair economic returns and livelihoods for all actors.
With the 'Farm to Fork' Strategy, the EU has put in place a strategic policy framework for the food system as a whole. This strategy aims to reduce the use of pesticides, tackle excess nutrients and anti-microbial resistance, and boost organic farming in the EU. It aims to create a healthy food system, mitigate the impacts of agriculture on climate change, reverse the loss of biodiversity and generate fairer economic revenues for those working in the sector. Several advisory services, as well as financial instruments and research and innovation will help make this transition.
